Did you know that your brain can generate as much as 10 Watts of electrical power?
Every part of your body vibrates at a different rhythm and your brain has its very own signature brain wave activity that is unique to you. Neuroscience identified five distinct brainwave frequencies – Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta and the lesser known Gamma. Those five brainwave frequencies have an affect on your state of mind and learning how to control the mind at the deeper levels of consciousness opens you up to the world of your subconscious mind, which creates your perception of reality.
While most of the time we look at emotions to achieve a more fulfilled and happy life, our brainwaves and subconscious mind are key players in our quest for happiness.
Each brain wave frequency is measured in cycles per second (Hz) and has its own set of characteristics that represent a very specific level of activity of the brain and a unique state of consciousness.
Let’s have a look at our different brain frequencies so we can learn about our deeper states on consciousness and have the power to create our reality at will and with precision.
BETA (14 – 40 Hz) – Waking Consciousness, Reasoning
Beta represents alertness, concentration and cognition. You are wide awake and alert. Your mind and focus is razor sharp. Your mind is able to make connections quickly and easily and you can give the task at hand your full attention. In the Beta state, your neurons fire constantly and rapidly, which helps you to achieve peak performance. It’s when new ideas flash like lightning in your mind and solutions to problems pop up. While it is important to function effectively throughout the day to be in Beta, this state can also produce stress, restlessness and anxiety. The majority of adults operate at Beta, so it’s no surprise that stress is today’s most prevalent health problem.
ALPHA (7.5 – 14 Hz) – Calm Consciousness, Deep Relaxation
Alpha represents relaxation, creativity and visualization. You are truly relaxed and your brain activity slows down from the rapid patterns of Beta to a more gentle wave in Alpha. With that, your awareness expands and fresh, creative energy begins to flow. In the Alpha state, fear disappears and you experience a liberating sense of peace, calm and wellbeing. When you are in the relaxed state of Alpha, you can tap into your creativity, it’s an excellent state for problem solving because stress starts to dissipate. While Alpha is a state of deep relaxation, you are not quite yet in a meditative state, but we begin to enter the gateway that leads to your subconscious mind. Your intuition becomes clearer and more profound.
THETA (4 – 7.5 Hz) – Meditation, Light Sleep
Theta is the state where your mind’s most deeply rooted programs are and it represents meditation, intuition and memory. In Theta, your brain wave activity slows down further, almost to the point of sleep, but not quite, yet. You go deeper into relaxation. When your brain is in Theta, magic happens. In Theta you are in a heightened state of receptivity. Long-forgotten memories come to the surface and flashes of dreamlike imagery occur. Theta can bring you into the deeper states of meditation and you feel a sense of ‘floating’. Theta is directly on the threshold to your subconscious mind. It is an expansive state of mind and you may feel your mind expanding beyond the boundaries of your body. Some people call Theta the twilight state, which we experience daily when we drift off to sleep or are transitioning from sleep to our waking state. Because our receptivity in Theta is so heightened, our imagination is extremely vivid and we can take in information beyond our normal conscious state of awareness. Learning Theta meditation drastically reduces stress, profoundly increases your creativity and learning skills and awakes your intuition and extrasensory perception to get exceptional insights.
DELTA (0.5 – 4 Hz) – Deep Sleep
Delta represents deep sleep, healing and detached awareness. It is our slowest frequency and associated with deep sleep. Certain frequencies in Delta can trigger the release of the Human Growth Hormone, which is necessary for regeneration and healing. That’s why deep restorative sleep is so essential to your well-being. When we are in Delta, we enter the realm of our subconscious mind where we can recall information that is unavailable to us at the conscious level. Some say Delta is the gateway to the universal mind and the collective unconscious.
GAMMA (above 40 Hz) – Insight
Gamma is the wave that has been most recently discovered and it is the fastest frequency. Although very little is known about this state of mind, yet, initial research into Gamma shows that this state is associated with bursts of insight and high-level information processing.
As an adult, we go through the whole range of the different vibrational levels daily, but kids don’t. Children start at the lowest level, which means in the first year or so of a child’s life, it is in Delta. This means a child at this age has a nervous system that can take information in, but it doesn’t have a nervous system that can coordinate a response out. From the first year up to about age 6, a child’s brain is predominantly in Theta. That’s why kids at that age can mix the imaginary world and the real world together – they are operating at the vibrational level of imagination. At around age 6, children are ramping up to the next level – Alpha. They are now expressing calm consciousness. And around age 12, kids ramp it up to the next higher level – Beta, which is focused consciousness.
The interesting part is that consciousness begins around age 6 or 7. That means before that, children are in a programmable state… Theta is hypnosis. For the first six years your life, everything you observe and experience is directly downloaded into your subconscious program without going through consciousness. There is no filter, it’s strictly recording exactly as seen. This programming into your subconscious mind become your behavioral programs that you still show today.
Our subconscious mind shapes our reality. Whatever is programmed into the subconscious mind is how we perceive our world today. And that has a major impact on our life, as we operate about 95% of the day from our subconscious mind and only 5% from our conscious mind. This means, we need to learn how to tap into the subconscious mind if we want to change our lives.
Dive deeper and explore the exciting journey into new realms of consciousness.
