REINVENT YOURSELF

Life is all about change – mentally, physically and spiritually. Change is deeply engrained in our human nature. We innately want to evolve and we want to change and throughout our lifetime, most of us reinvent themselves several times.

Now, we are not just talking about improving ourselves and making things a little bit better. We are talking about hitting the reset button and reinvent our life in a way that is a complete game changer. This means taking charge of our life, challenging our beliefs and reinventing the way we do things.

Before you can start to reinvent yourself, you have to do some digging. It takes some introspection and a lot of self-examination to understand who you currently are with all your strengths and weaknesses, passions, desires and goals. It is crucial to be completely honest as you assess yourself and your life to find out what really matters to you without the influence of others.

If you go honestly through the process of self-discovery, nothing stands in your way to reinvent yourself exactly the way you want and live the life of your dreams.

Here are our TOP 10 tips when you set out on the path of reinvention.

#1 Set Clear Goals
As you set out to reinvent yourself, be realistic and set clear goals. You want to be optimistic, but not overly so that your goals are not achievable, however, you need to factor in that growth and learning are a big part of your journey of reinvention. Make sure you focus on one major goal at a time. If you are trying to reinvent yourself in all areas of your life at the same time, you are going to lack focus and will probably feel overwhelmed.

#2 Set Yourself Up for Success
Reinventing yourself will most likely require that you create new constructive and positive habits to take you out of the routine you currently have. Break down your long-term goal into smaller action plans that you can integrate into your daily routine. Make sure you are honest with yourself as you start adjusting to your new daily to-do list and get clear on how long each step will take to avoid disappointment and frustration if progress isn’t as fast as you’d like it to be. It will take some dedicated effort to reinvent yourself, so break down your ultimate goal into weekly goals and those weekly goals into daily 30-minute tasks and schedule accordingly.

#3 Expect Setbacks
As with anything in life, challenges, obstacles and setbacks are to be expected on your road to reinvention. To stay motivated and positive throughout the process, find ways to track smaller accomplishments so you are better equipped to handle the curveballs that life throws at you. Even the best of plans never work out exactly as we would like, so it’s best to be prepared for obstacles and develop the will power to get through them rather than giving up on your ultimate goal.

#4 Connect to the Right People
In today’s world we are so interconnected that it is easier than ever to connect to people from all over the world. Open yourself up to networking with new people who can change you for the better. Social media can offer you the opportunity to make real connections and gain insights from people you may never have the chance to interact with in any other way. Don’t isolate yourself, but reach out and touch people.

#5 Learn
Whatever it is that makes you a more well-rounded person, do it and do it often. Whether you get your information from inspiring books, the internet or workshops and webinars, it is detrimental on your path to reinvention that you enhance your knowledge. You may need some new skills to become the new you or you want to explore a new hobby, as long as you grow personally and professionally it will be extremely helpful in your reinvention efforts. Lifelong learning introduces you to new ideas and people, keeps you motivated and helps you to develop new mental skills. And don’t forget to learn more about yourself.

#6 Find a Mentor
It is in our human nature to just expect that in the future our best self will show up and everything will just magically fall into place. Oftentimes however we overestimate our ability to reach the desired goals and underestimate the amount of effort it requires to get there and what kind of toll this can take on us. A great way to keep going into the direction of our desired reinvention is to find a mentor who has already achieved the goals that you are looking to achieve. Mentors can help guide you in the right direction and can share the reality of their journey – good and bad – with you, so you are better prepared and can more accurately anticipate what kind of effect your reinvention will have on your world. Keep in mind, everybody is different and has a different journey. Take the advice from your mentor, but don’t follow it blindly.

#7 Acknowledge Fear
On our journey to reinvent ourselves, we will encounter people and situations that will make us uncomfortable and question ourselves if we are doing the right thing. There is a part of our brain that doesn’t like being laughed at and that worries about safety. This part can shut down our dreams of reinvention. Don’t let fear – whether it be of embarrassment if it doesn’t work out as planned or worries that we won’t be able to achieve whatever it is we are dreaming about stop you. It’s that little voice inside your head that resists change and will be hard to overcome. It is critical to shut down the worrisome inner voice of skepticism and move forward with your reinvention plans.

#8 Don’t Justify Your Decision
It is your life and there is a reason why you made the decision to reinvent yourself. There is no need to justify your decision to anyone or anything. And if somebody does question your decision, be honest, have your facts ready and the passion to back up your plan. However, ultimately others just have to respect what you are planning to do. Remember, the most important person in your life is YOU and you have to be happy with the decision you made.

#9 Experiment
On your journey to reinvention step out of your comfort zone and try new things and experiment with fun new projects. That’s the only way to truly figure out what you really want and who you truly want to be. Some of those new ideas are going to be successful, some are going to be failures. Don’t be afraid to try and you will for sure figure out where your passion lies and where your reinvention is supposed to lead you.

#10 Reasses
Life is anything but stagnant. The dreams about your life you have today, may no longer be your heart’s desire two, three years from now. And even if you have the same goals and dreams, the process towards achieving them may not be satisfying to you in the future. Take the time to evaluate your reinvention progress on a regular basis. Some people choose to use the new year, their birthday or another significant anniversary to reassess their dreams and goals to see if they are still going in the right direction. Whatever dates you may choose, make sure to check in with yourself. There is nothing wrong with changing direction as long as you follow your dreams that make you truly happy.

Research shows that we spend a lot of time thinking about the future, to be more specific, studies show that it can be as much as one hour every eight hours. But a lot of times we fail to act on achieving the future we dream about. Fear, procrastination and false expectations consistently hold us back to achieve change. To be able to overcome these pitfalls as you launch into your journey of reinventing yourself, use our tips to guide you through this transformation.
