Even if you live the life of your dreams, there is always room to improve yourself. Maybe you’re working too much or maybe you never take time to be alone. Setting time aside to focus on yourself, your goals and your dreams is detrimental to fulfillment and life satisfaction.
Oftentimes we think that our accomplishments and accumulating material possessions will bring us happiness, but while this may feel good in the moment, it is not a sustainable feeling. However, if you focus on life experiences and continue to learn and grow on a continuous basis, you can achieve long-lasting happiness.
We are very passionate about personal growth and helping others to grow and we are constantly looking for new ways to self-improve. Here are our TOP 10 tips and trick that can help you on your journey to self-improvement.
#1 Take Action Right Now
All good intentions of wanting to embark on the journey to self-improvement aren’t going to get you anywhere if you don’t actually get started. And the only way to get started is to start taking action right now. Not in an hour, not tomorrow, not next week. Right now is the perfect time to start moving forward. Make yourself a priority. Ask yourself what is the first action you need to take in order to achieve your desired reality. It doesn’t have to be a major big step. Anything that keeps you going in the right direction is a great start. From there you will create the momentum that you need to moving forward.
#2 Commit Yourself
Whenever we set out to achieve a goal like self-improvement, sooner or later life gets in the way and we have a million other things we need to do at work, at home, in our social life. Commit to yourself and your goal of self-improvement. Make it your highest priority and don’t let anything or anyone come in the way of your commitment. It may help to broadcast your focus on self-improvement to as many people as possible to get the support you need to stay committed and to have people hold you accountable for your decision to work on yourself.
#3 Set Goals
On your way to self-improvement make sure to set goals in the area of your life that you want to improve. Just saying that you want to improve yourself doesn’t do you any good. You need to be more specific. Do you want to get healthier and work out every day? Are you looking to improve your food intake? Do you want to achieve a promotion by the end of the year? Whatever it is you want to improve, whether that’s in your health, your relationships, your career, your finances or your personal development, find goals in that area and go for it with all you’ve got.
#4 Find a Mentor or Coach
While self-motivation and empowerment is very commendable, there is no faster way to improve yourself than to have someone work with you on your goals and dreams. You will achieve significantly better results than when you try to do it on your own. Just think about all the high level athletes out there. They all have a coach who helps them stay on track and point them in the right direction, give feedback and help to correct mistakes a lot faster than you could do on your own.
#5 Stop Your Inner Critic
While on your path to self-improvement, stop your inner critic. We all have that voice inside our head that can be highly critical, but just because you set out to improve yourself doesn’t mean that you aren’t great already. Minimize that negative voice and replace it with a more helpful, empowering voice that can support you on your journey to self-improvement and encourage you to keep learning and growing.
#6 Keep Your Priorities Straight
Whenever you get off track, ask yourself what is truly important in your life and keep your priorities straight. Make sure you invest your time in strengthening the behaviors that will move you forward and keep your eyes on the goal of self-improvement. Is it more important to check your social media feed constantly or would it be more helpful to you and your life to proactively seek out inspirational information that can help you to improve yourself. What area of your life needs improvement? Is it health, career, relationships, spirituality or finances? Prioritize your life and focus on what’s most important to you.
#7 Take Care of Yourself
One key element of self-improvement is to take care of yourself. A lot of us are constantly putting everyone else’s needs first. It is time to spend some serious time on self-care. Indulge in a massage, make sure you get to the gym, have a bubble bath, take a walk in nature, read an inspirational book, meditate, listen to your favorite music. Whatever it is that makes you feel alive, do it and do it often. This will give you the motivation and energy to keep going on your path to self-improvement.
#8 Learn Something New
In your quest to improve yourself it is important to make time every single day – even if it’s just 15 minutes – to learn something new. Sign up for that online class you’ve been wanting to take, dust off your old guitar, learn a new language, simply crack open a book. In today’s age, there are so many opportunities to learn something new that once you get into the habit of learning, you will truly love the process of it. So many people stop learning once formal education ends. However, we believe this is when the true learning really starts.
#9 Have Fun
If you set the goal of improving yourself, it can at times feel like hard work or like a chore. It is highly important to not let your entire being be consumed by the process of self-improvement. Find fun activities that you can add to your life that are pleasurable and make you laugh. Having fun is the antidote to all the hard work you put in to improve yourself and laughter is good for the soul.
#10 Be Patient
We live in a world where we expect instant gratification and if we don’t achieve our goal RIGHT NOW, it can be frustrating. Be patient with yourself, give yourself some time and allow yourself to enjoy the process even more so than reaching the destination. If you can do that and allow yourself to be happy right now, you are well on your way to achieve awesomeness. Just remember to keep up the good work and never stop.
How many times have you told yourself in all earnestness that you are going to work on your own self-improvement only to have that enthusiasm fizzle out and all your best intentions disappear? It is one of the most common things in the world, it happens to the best of us. But if you incorporate our tips and tricks into your daily life, you will be able to beat inaction and make your honest desire for self-improvement a reality.
